Our beginnings
The John S Lyman, Jr. VFW Post 4536 was Chartered on 4 September 1963 in Palm Bay Florida.
John S Lyman Jr. was a Nucear Reactor Operator/Officer on submarines. LCDR Lyman was lost at sea when the USS Thresher on a Trial run sank 10 April 1963, apporximately 220 miles east of Boston, while conducting deep diving exercises.
The original John S Lyman, Jr. VFW Ladies Auxiliary was Chartered on 7 May, 1969. The Auxiliary was Re-Chartered on 21 August 2015 as the John S Lyman Jr. Post No. 4536 Auxiliary to be more inclusive, and is made up of Spouses ,Family members, and Friends their time, assistance, and support are crucial for our success as a Post.
Our purpose
Is to support and advocate for all Veterans; Active Duty, Separated, or Retired and their families. The VFW whether Locally, Statewide or Nationally are Veterans looking out for each other through our bonds of service.
